Getting to know you

The dogs are less than thrilled about having a cat in the house, but we're making progress. I read somewhere that when you introduce a new animal to the home you should feed them on either side of a door or gate from each other so they can smell each other but not get to each other while they eat. The idea is that they will learn to associate the positive feeling of eating with the other animal's smell and will decide that animal is a positive thing. I did this with Wolfey and Lolly when I first adopted Lolly an it seemed to work pretty well. The problem with doing that with Brady is that, because he's still underweight (he was severely malnourished when Man adopted him), Man has food accessible to him all the time, making it impossible to determine when he's going to eat. So tonight, Man and I sat with all three animals and handfuls of treats to try to mimic the above procedure. It was kind if a pain to sit on the floor so long and hang on to all three animals, but it went surprisingly well and all three animals sat together nicely. I'm looking forward to trying it again!
