I may have too much time on my hands

We were discussing how moody I've been on this darn juice fast and started debating (jokingly, of course) whether I could have a drink.  Originally it was suggested that because vodka doesn't have any calories I could drink it, but I said that since tequila is made from cactus, which is a vegetable, it's practically juice already and I totally think it's allowed. I was questioned on whether a cactus is actually a vegetable or possibly a fruit.  And then this happened.
  • Is a cactus a fruit or a vegetable ? — with Karen

      Is a cactus a vegetable?

no Answer The term ‘vegetable’ generally means the edible parts of plants, and has little meaning otherwise.

    • Karen  Well, meaning that it's not a fruit, so since it's a plant, if you consider it edible it must be a vegetable

    • Karen  Okay, so actually it's a fruit and a vegetable, depending on which part you're eating.http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120121154209AAgJjmS

      Is cactus a vegetable? ?

Yes, cactus leaves are considered a vegetable. However, the prickly pear that grows on the same cactus is a fruit.

    • Karen  But here's the downside: tequila is made from the blue agave plant, so this whole discussion was moot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tequila

    • Karen Wait!! Blue agave is still a plant, and turning it into tequila makes it edible, therefore an edible plant and therefore a vegetable! Ha! I still win!!
